Pastoral Letter
My Sisters and Brothers in Christ, The Peace of the Lord be with you! Each month brings with it a variety of special observances—daily, weekly, and monthly—recognized around the world. Some receive widespread attention while others, not so much. This month, allow me to highlight two observances that invite us to greater awareness and compassion. 1. Diabetes Awareness Month November is recognized globally as Diabetes Awareness Month with World Diabetes Day observed on 14 November. The theme this year is Diabetes and Well-Being with special focus being on Diabetes and the Workplace. Statistics reveal that 7 in 10 people living with diabetes are of working age. Of these, 3 in 4 experience anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges related to their condition, and 4 in 5 report experiencing diabetes burnout. These numbers remind us of the importance of wholistic care— physical, emotional, spiritual—for those among us living with chronic illness. 2. Movember – Men’s Health Awareness Movember, which I am now learning of, is a global campaign throughout November that raises awareness of men's health issues, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. The movement encourages men to grow mustaches and participate in activities that promote early detection, reduce stigma, and foster open conversations about health and well-being. Coinciding with Movember, International Men’s Day is observed on 19 November and also raises awareness of unique health challenges men face while celebrating the positive contributions of men. As people of faith, we are called to be attentive not only to our own needs but also to the needs of others. We are also called to affirm the dignity of all persons and support one another in living whole and healthy lives. Awareness must lead to action—through education, support, advocacy, and prayer. Let us be mindful of these observances and seek ways to care for our loved ones, our communities, and our world. Paul reminds us, “bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatian 6:2). Compassion, then, is not optional, it is central to our calling as followers of Christ. May we be moved to act with love and understanding, especially toward those facing health challenges. Have a blessed month, Your pastor and friend, Mark S. Christmas
Prayer for the Month
Thanks, Thanks, we give you thanks, for all you have done. We are so blessed, our souls are at rest, Oh Lord, we give you thanks. We give you thanks for health and strength. We remember this time our Caribbean neighbours who have suffered during the passage of Hurricane Melissa. We ask for your continued protection on us all as we go through this hurricane season. Lord we give you thanks for restoring our Chapel. Thanks to all who have laboured, those who have donated and those who have pledged on a monthly basis. Help us to be able to meet our monthly commitment to the bank. Father, revive Thy work O Lord, while here to Thee we bow. Descend our Gracious Lord descend. O come and Bless us now. Amen
