Pastoral Message
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, The Peace of the Risen Christ be with you! During the month of June, the Circuit will observe “Family Month”. I suggest that we should look at renaming it, “Home and Family (Life) Month” to be consistent with the sub-heading under Mission and Evangelism in the MCCA Constitution and Discipline. Among the observances will be Children Lord’s Day (9 June) and Father’s Day (16 June). I encourage all “fathers” to take seriously their calling and role by being present in the lives of their children. It is not the money that matters, but the influence we have on those under our care. I encourage those fathers whose children are now “big and grown” to reach out and help those whose children are still growing. While boys tend to become causes of concern, we will bear in mind that it is not just boys who need their fathers, girls do too. 1 June begins the Atlantic Hurricane Season. Knowing that the Hurricane Season is annual would mean that preparation is of vital importance. Some of us are “last minute persons”. However, if we have not yet prepared for the Season, let us do so. Whatever repairs need to be done, ensure that they are done. Whatever needs to be put in place for contingencies, ensure that they are done. Let us not wait until a storm is upon us to ensure things are in place. In our preparations, let us look out for our “neighbours”. Hurricanes, like other natural disasters, raise questions about our faith. Why would a good God allow this to happen? Why should it happen to me? To us? Was my faith inadequate? What if…? Is God punishing me/us for our sins? Is this a “sign of the times”? Does my/our escape from a hurricane during the season mean that God is my/our side? What does that say about those who were not so fortunate? Are they getting what they justly deserve for their wickedness? Is there something God is teaching us? The simple answer to this is, let God be God. Whatever happens or does not happen is about a trust in a God who ‘promises never to leave us nor forsake us’. Be informed! Be prepared! Have a blessed month of togetherness and trust! Your pastor and friend, Mark S. Christmas
Prayer for the Month
Heavenly Father, as we enter your presence today, we ask that you forgive us of our sins, committed in thought, word or deed. Lord, may we strive to live our lives pleasing unto you. Thank you for all you have done in our lives and what you will continue to do.
King of kings and Lord of lords, as we enter the Hurricane season, we pray for your protection over the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and the wider region. It is written in Psalm 91, “You who live in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. will say to the Lord, “he is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” We give you thanks and praises, Lord, for we know that you will never leave us nor forsake us. We thank you for providing for our every need. It is written in Jeremiah 33 verse 3, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known”.
We pray for the students that are about to complete their educational journey on the island. We ask for your guidance as they enter the world of work. May they keep you at the forefront of their lives in all that they do. Guide, guard, and protect them and be their refuge and strength in times of trouble.
We thank you, Lord, for hearing our prayers. We know that you who began a good work in us will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. These mercies we pray in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
